WINTER

Looking for some peace and beauty? With walks by the sea, coffee and croissant in the village cafe’, local merguez sausages, freshly caught fish or rosemary marinated chicken cooked simply on your pinewood fire – then La Daby is the perfect retreat.

Winter is a special time, there are less people around and visiting Aix en Provence, Le Courbusier’s towerblock in Marseille or visiting La Villa Noailles in Hyeres is an easy pleasure. Cooking on open fires outside are possible on the land at this time of year. Bake potatoes in the embers for a supper with delicious local hams and cheeses all bought at the Le Beausset market.

SPRING

Looking for warm sun when it’s still cold in London, wild flowers, precious orchids, a multitude of butterflies, frogs and other wildlife: then spring is the time for you in this protected paradise.

Walks up in the mountains reveal spring falls and it is the perfect temperature for climbing some of the more difficult routes at D’Evenos.

The first asparagus, broad beans and artichokes are tender and in season. In May the cherries ripen, the local fruit comes into its own: apricots, the best white peaches tasted and later on Muscat grapes and figs. It is now warm enough to have an aperitif in the local village square, a pastis, kir or cold Bandol rose while the world goes by.

SUMMER

For heat lovers, summer is the moment: Relax by the pool, soak up the summer sun and the hot smell of pine, lavender and rosemary. Cool off with a dip or a shower under the fig tree.

Bandol – the local seaside port -prides itself on its crisp rosé, ideal to accompany tasty tomato salad with basil and or stuffed courgette flowers. For seaside lovers, enjoy a sunset swim with moules frites in a restaurant over looking the Mediterranean. Start an evening with cocktails and crepes at the hill top medieval village – Le Castellet. Dance the night away at a village Fetes, arrive home for a flood lit swim in the pool and then lie out watching for shooting stars.

In the first weekend in July there is the Fête De La Saint Éloi, this is the biggest local celebration of the year – a blessing of all the horses at the church. The village is filled with locals in traditional costume, dancing, music and gun salutes. Everyone parties late into the night.

Bastille Day – 14 Juillet, it is a fabulous time to be in France as there is a real party atmosphere. Le Beausset square is taken over with live bands, dancing and every sort of entertainment imaginable. There is a good, safe atmosphere and great fun for all ages including a kid’s funfair, fire breathers and jugglers.

AUTUMN

Looking for a sea still warm from the summer sun with long walks along the coastal paths with a dip in a crystal cove – then autumn is your season.

Bright blue skies, summer lingers longer here. The vintage takes place with grapes collected and pressed in some notable vineyards including Ott and Tempier. The leaves on the vines start to turn.

Take a trip to Toulon for their formidable daily food market, scuba-dive or watch the kite surfers jostle at high speed at Les Lesques. Then pick up a wood-fire cooked pizza from Le Beausset and head home to enjoy a fire of your own.

In the first weekend in December there is a new wine festival in Bandol for wine lovers to experience the earthy, full taste of Bandol’s red wine, the famous rosé and the sun-filled fruity blanc de blanc.
